The Perfect Mornington Peninsula Day Trip

Only 70kms from the Melbourne CBD, the Mornington Peninsula is fast becoming the ultimate day trip destination for indulging in life’s simple pleasures. With the beaches being an obvious drawcard to the region, there’s an endless list of reasons why the Peninsula is a great place to visit for the perfect day trip, but here’s just a few to get you on your way…

Wine Tasting

Ocean Eight

Ocean Eight

As soon as you head down the driveway of the beautifully landscaped property of Ocean Eight, you know you’re in for something special. As picture perfect as the grounds of this vineyard might be, they are no match for the amazing wines being poured at this unique cellar door. They take their winemaking very seriously here, and once you taste their premium range of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, you’ll understand why. The wines here are some of the most elegant and refined expressions of these varieties that you’ll find anywhere on the Peninsula. Visitors are taken down into the depths of their underground cellar to explore the inner-workings of this understated but outstanding winery.

Quealy

Quealy

This is a small and rustic cellar door that is sure to surprise and delight. Winemaker Kathleen Quealy is often on hand to pour you a tasting, or show you through the winery, sharing her experience and winemaking wisdom. This is a real treat for visitors as you get a rare insight into the inner workings of such an amazing winery. There are many highlights in their range, including some amazing red and white sparklings, and the very popular ‘Rageous’, a blend of Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Shiraz. You’ll also find Italian varieties, Friulano and Pinot Grigio, as well as Peninsula favourite, Pinot Gris.

From the outstanding wines to the iconic labels which are specially commissioned for the winery and have a fun pop-art feel, this is a typically Australian winery, with not so typical wines.
