Discover the top things to do in Bali

Whether you’re new to Bali, or you’ve been there a thousand times, there’s always something different to discover. We’ve put together a list of the top things to do in Bali, from exploring the chic suburb of Seminyak to learning how to cook the best Nasi Goreng.

Be stylish in Seminyak

Seminyak is Bali’s hippest suburb. Located next to bustling Kuta, it’s much more upmarket and is the place to be seen. Check out ‘Eat Street’ Seminyak, a hub of activity and chic cafes. Grab a drink or a bite to eat and people watch from your seat in the sun. Looking to do a bit of Seminyak shopping? It’s not hard to find a classy swimwear store or boho boutique on one of Seminyak’s many streets or in Seminyak Square, home to some of the best shopping in Bali.

Photograph the beautiful Bali rice fields

Found all over the island and providing a spectacular landscape for that all-important Instagram snap are the Bali rice fields. In West Bali, Jatiluwih rice terraces cascade over 600 hectares of the Batukaru mountain range and are the largest and most beautiful of rice terraces in Bali. Tegallalang rice terraces in Ubud can easily be seen from the roadside viewpoint, and are some of the most popular due to their easy access. A way of life and extremely important to the community, the Bali rice fields are well worth a visit (and a photo or two!).

Learn how to cook Nasi Goreng

Add a little spice to your life with a cooking class in Bali. Cook up some culinary delights with fresh Balinese produce, herbs and spices and take your taste buds on the journey of a lifetime. Choose from dishes such as Nasi Goreng, Indonesia’s national dish, or a spicy prawn sambal that will rival even the best MasterChef! Join the head chef of The Laneway Restaurant and Bar as he takes you into his herb garden and teaches you the top tips and tricks of cooking Indonesian cuisine!

Visit a sacred Bali temple

Bali is home to some of the most beautiful temples in the world. For spectacular sunrises and sunsets, head to Tanah Lot, perched high on the rocks overlooking the ocean below. Uluwatu is another Bali temple worth visiting with its clifftop position and surfers chasing the waves below.

Island-hop in Bali

Pristine beaches, water sports, and some of the best snorkelling in Bali…embark on an island-hopping adventure to places like the Gili Islands, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. There are numerous day trips available departing from your hotel or major Bali suburbs such as Sanur and Kuta.

Go chasing Bali waterfalls

Although many may be off the beaten track, Bali’s waterfalls are worth seeking out, purely for their spectacular beauty. Located in Northern Bali, GitGit Waterfall in Singaraja is one of the easiest to get to and at around thirty-five metres high, it’s by far the most impressive. Another one of our favourites is Niagara Munduk – the Niagara Falls of Bali. With two falls and twin lakes, it’s one of the most beautiful.

Get wild at Bali Safari Park

Elephant back safaris, breakfast with lions, Bali Agung shows and much more – Bali Safari Park is one of the hottest Bali attractions. The park is also home to a number of displaced elephants and breeds wild Sumatran tigers, some of which are injured and handicapped due to traps and snares. The park prides itself on the care and conservation of these animals.

Spend the day with the local residents at Ubud Monkey Forest

Over 600 monkeys, 186 types of trees and three temples can be found in the Ubud Monkey Forest. Visit the playful monkeys, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the spiritual and sacred importance of the forest.

Hang-ten at the best Bali surf spots

From pros to beginners, there’s a wave break for everyone in Bali. With the famous Uluwatu temple as a focal point, the waves here provide a truly unique experience. Suluban and Padang Padang are known for their consistent barrels whilst the surf break ‘Impossibles’ features powerful swells with challenging surf. Keramas, located on the eastern coast of Bali, is a beach break over an uneven lava reef and is host to many pro events. If you’re a beginner and just want to learn the basics, stick to Kuta Beach where you can choose from a plethora of surf schools dotted along the beach.

Discover Denpasar

Denpasar is Bali’s capital city and most commonly known for the Denpasar Airport. Most tourists are quick to escape the busy city and head for their resort, but Denpasar is a cultural gem just waiting to be discovered. Tour temples and museums, walk through mangrove forests or check out events such as the annual Bali Arts Festival.

Cool off at Waterbom Bali

Waterbom Bali is perfect for those sultry Bali days…and whether you’re young or young at heart, there’s bound to be something for everyone to enjoy. Float down the lazy river or choose from one of many world-class slides to get your adrenaline pumping! Ideally located in Kuta, you likely won’t have to venture very far from your Bali accommodation to experience the thrill of Waterbom Bali.
