48 hours in Adelaide

Heading to Adelaide for a few days and don’t know where to begin? Don’t fret! We’ve got you covered with our top things to do in Adelaide over 48 hours.

Day 1 – Morning

Fly into Adelaide Airport, just 6 kilometres from the CBD. Drop your luggage at Peppers Waymouth Hotel, centrally located in the CBD making it the perfect Adelaide accommodation, and grab a free bike from BikeSA to head out and explore the city.

Head to North Terrace and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens for a free guided walk, join in on a gardening masterclass or visit the Santos Museum of Economic Botany to brush up on your plant history. Next, venture over to the Adelaide Zoo to cuddle a koala or go behind the scenes with the keepers of Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Fu Ni for your chance to meet the adorable pair.

Day 1 – Afternoon

Stop for lunch at Adelaide Central Market, one of the largest undercover fresh produce markets in the southern hemisphere, where you’ll find a huge range of fresh produce as well as some of Adelaide’s best cafes.

Next, discover the shopping destination of Rundle Mall – home to more than 1,000 retailers and services. If you’re looking to indulge in a designer piece, head east on Rundle Street for some of Australia’s leading designer labels. Take a detour down one of Adelaide’s laneways such as Ebenezer Place or Vardon Avenue for some quirky boutiques and a caffeine hit to keep you going.

Head back to Peppers Waymouth Hotel and check in to your sophisticated room complete with floor to ceiling windows with stunning city views. Relax and recharge at the indoor heated pool and sauna and relish in a bit of down time before an exciting evening on the town.

Sports fanatic? Head to Adelaide Oval for a Port Adelaide or Adelaide Crows AFL game or catch the Australia National Cricket Team for The Ashes cricket. With world-class facilities and a plethora of restaurants and bars as well as the Adelaide Casino just a few steps away, Adelaide Oval is one of the top Adelaide attractions.

For the artsy, visit during “Mad March” for the annual Adelaide Fringe Festival and enjoy plenty of cabaret, comedy, music, theatre and more! Or, check out a show at one of the Adelaide Festival Centre venues including the Festival Theatre, Dunstan Playhouse and Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Day 2 - Morning

Enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast at Essay Kitchen or a la carte breakfast at Barketta before hiring a car to explore Adelaide’s spectacular surrounding regions.

Day 2 - Afternoon

For some of the best Adelaide wineries, look no further than the Barossa Valley. Just a 50 minute drive from the city, wine connoisseurs will be in their element with over 80 cellar doors featuring some of the most awarded wine in the world. From Wolf Blass to Penfolds to Yalumba, you’ll be spoilt for choice in the Barossa.

If you can squeeze another day into your trip, Kangaroo Island is a must-see day trip. Hop on the Kangaroo Island SeaLink from Cape Jervis (approximately 2 hours’ drive from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula) for a comfortable 45 minute journey to the picturesque island. Laze on one of the pristine beaches, swim with wild dolphins, or embark on a wildlife tour to see koalas, kangaroos, echidna, birds and more.

Day 2 - Evening

After a busy day exploring the region, head back to the hotel for a cool cocktail and delicious dinner at Barketta before settling into your beautiful Adelaide hotel for the night.
