If there is one wine that is, quite literally, on everyone’s lips these days it is pinot noir. In Australia and New Zealand, we are right in the eye of a perfect pinot storm as both countries are making so many great examples from a myriad of regions.

The thing with pinot is that it has subtle power, it is persuasive and elegant, it delivers so much pleasure and is such a great food friendly style, that you almost can’t help but like it. The power rests in its subtlety and in its delicacy and that makes it an incredibly alluring wine.

In terms of food matching, there are so many different directions that you can head with pinot noir. One of my favourite foils for spice-driven dishes that carry a little heat is a tangy, red-fruited glass of pinot. It wraps smoothly around the punchy flavours of Thai, Indian and Vietnamese dishes and the vibrant pinot fruit really shines.

More savoury and gamey flavours also work really well, duck is the famous one, but also think about the more delicate savoury notes of Japanese cuisines or the eclectic savoury flavours that Spanish-inspired meals conjure up; pinot really is the perfect accompaniment.

It’s also the one red wine that you can drink year-round and in any climate. From the laid back outposts of Peppers in Tropical North Queensland’s Palm Cove and Port Douglas, right down to the cool of Victoria’s Peppers Mineral Springs in Daylesford, you’ll find the soothing embrace of a great pinot noir matches perfectly.

A stay at Peppers can take you close to the source of great pinot in Australia. Our Peppers Cradle Mountain property in Tasmania is atop the heartland of Australia’s most exciting pinot noir country. Over in New Zealand Peppers Parehua in Martinborough sits nestled amongst the pinot vines and Peppers Queenstown is right on the doorstep of New Zealand’s famous Central Otago pinot noir.

So no matter what time of year, or what climate you are in, treat yourself and take a moment to enjoy a glass of pinot as you delve into the unique experiences along our Peppers Gourmet Food Trail. For more details visit our website.

Cheers and see you at Peppers!
