New Zealand's Driving Holiday for Wine Lovers
The Classic New Zealand Wine Trail is the creation of Mike Laven, owner of Peppers Martinborough Hotel and Martinborough Wine Centre. It is a 380km route linking the wine regions of Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Marlborough, which together produce just over 80 percent of all wine in New Zealand. New Touring Route Sign-marked for Wine Lovers
If you have driven along State Highway 2 between Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa, you might have noticed new road signs, some with a stylized bunch of grapes and some with the name “Classic NZ Wine Trail’. This is New Zealand’s newest touring route and it provides a trail through the lower half of the North Island from its starting point in Hawkes Bay, where it links with the Pacific Coast Highway and the Thermal Explorer routes.

Cycling through Vineyards
Without doubt, the best way to explore Martinborough Wine Village and the vineyards that surround the village is by bicycle. The cycling is relaxed and easy. In addition, the terrain is relatively flat and distances between wineries are short. Take time to stop at the wineries and taste some of the world’s best Pinot Noirs. Cape Palliser Seal Colony
A highlight will be the spectacular drive to Cape Palliser to visit the seal colony - the North Island's largest breeding area of New Zealand's fur seals.
