Milford Sound is simply stunning. It is a natural wonder of world fame. In Maori legend, the fiords were created not by rivers of ice, but by Tu Te Raki Whanoa, a godly figure who came wielding a magical adze and uttering incantations. Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) is without doubt his finest sculpture.
Whatever the fiord’s mood - teeming with rain or with sun glistening on deep water - it will inspire you. Nowhere else in Fiordland do the mountains stand as tall, straight out of the sea. In the foreground of the fiord stands the legendary Mitre Peak, a remarkable presence dominating the skyline.

In winter, Queenstown is transformed into an Alpine Winter Wonderland. There are four ski fields located within 30 minutes to just over an hours drive from Queenstown: Coronet Peak (20 minutes drive), The Remarkables (45 minutes drive) and Treble Cone and Cardrona (just over an hour).
Located high in the Remarkables mountain range, The Remarkables Ski Area enjoys soft, cold and dry snow for most a season that generally runs from late June to mid October. Since opening in 1985 it has become known for its alpine environment, relaxed atmosphere and sense of fun. Young, hip snowboarders, freeskiers and families flock to the mountain's varied trails, backcountry chutes and vast terrain parks.
Queenstown’s Coronet Peak is the South Island’s most popular ski area – and with good reason. Diverse terrain, fantastic views, proximity to Queenstown and a cosmopolitan ambience create a superb winter experience for every level of snow sport enthusiast.
Treble Cone lies at the South East end of the Southern Alps of New Zealand - right in the heart of the Southern Lakes District and only 26 kilometres from the beautiful lakeside town of Wanaka. Covering 550 hectares, it has more skiable terrain than any other ski or snowboard area in the South Island.
